Consider this true story: Thirty feet of #80 roller chain moves boards through the bundling phase on a lumber mill’s roll case. Over time, the roller chain stretched, motion would become unsynchronized, and sometimes boards would fall from their stack and land on operators.
The long center distance of the drive previously prevented conversion to Poly Chain belt drives. Then came Poly Chain Extended Length. The initial investment was more than the cost of the chain system, but long term costs are significantly reduced:
- Belt life is anticipated to be 3x longer than the chain
- Sprocket life is anticipated to be 10x longer
- Jerky motion and falling boards no longer a safety hazard (danger averted!)
- Labor and downtime from constant lubrication and retensioning is eliminated entirely
