Sealmaster Reduced Maintenance PN Gold Bearings
Brewery Saves $30,000 and Reduces Nuisance Maintenance
A major U.S. brewery was experiencing bearing life of less than six months resulting in unplanned downtime and frequent bearing changes. Bearing maintenance problems were the result of excessive lubrication. Corrosion was a problem due to some standard bearings being used on the line. These issues prompted Clean in Place (CIP) violations resulting in the removal of the bearings.
Regal Power Transmission Solutions reviewed the application with the brewery maintenance staff. The bearings were lubricated daily because they believed it would increase the longevity of the bearing. The bearing cavity being over filled with lubrication resulted in grease leaking out and occasionally popping out the seals. Sealmaster Reduced Maintenance PN Gold bearing with stainless steel housing with a bolt on end cap and back side shield was recommended. The Sealmaster Reduced Maintenance PN Gold bearing is a reduced maintenance bearing not requiring additional lubrication. This bearing has phosphorous nickel (PN) raceways to prevent corrosion and a high-performance triple-lip seal to prevent water from entering the bearing.
The Sealmaster Reduced Maintenance PN Gold bearings have successfully run for eighteen months without failure. The cost to change out the competitor’s bearings every six months vs. the Sealmaster bearing every eighteen months, not including lost production, resulted in an estimated annual savings of over $30,000.
